The BJP has nominated him for Rajya Sabha. He was recently appointed as the BJP’s Haryana state in-charge. Soon after, it was reported that the former Tripura Chief Minister would be nominated for the Rajya Sabha elections. Political observers believe that the BJP’s choice will result in his political rehabilitation. Biplab Deb’s popularity also played a significant effect in the election results. On March 9, 2018, he was sworn in as Tripura’s Chief Minister. However, before the end of his term, on May 14, this year, he stood down as Chief Minister. In his place, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha was sworn in as Tripura’s Chief Minister. The BJP declared on Friday that former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb will run in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha by-elections. Biplab Deb congratulated the party’s top officials through Twitter after making the statement on their behalf. He wrote on Twitter.
Prof. Dr. Manik Saha was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April of this year. Despite the fact that his term as a Member of Parliament expires in April 2028, he resigned from the Rajya Sabha shortly after his appointment as Chief Minister of Tripura was announced. The election commission has called a by-election to fill the vacancy. On September 22, Rajya Sabha by-elections will be held.
