Bill To Cut Compensations of MPs by 30% Passed in Parliament

A bill to decrease for one year the compensations of MPs by 30 percent to meet the exigencies emerging out of the Covid-19 pandemic was passed in the parliament on Friday.

The Allowances, Salary, and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill, 2020 was passed in the Rajya Sabha.

The Bill had got the endorsement of Lok Sabha on September 15. On Thursday, it was presented in the upper house by parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi.

Similarly, the Upper House passed the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which proposes to lessen the compensations and recompenses of ministers for a year by 30 percent.

G Kishan Reddy, Minister of state for home moved the bill.
Both the bills were taken up all the while and passed by voice vote.
