AGARTALA, JULY 31: Tripura High Court ordered the state police to conduct Test Identification Parade to identify persons who had attacked Dr. Sangeeta Chakraborty and the medical team when they went to the Bhagat Singh Covid Care Centre for admission of 5 post-Cesarean Covid patients with their newborns.
Justice Arindam Lodh on 30 July ordered for recording Dr. Chakraborty’s statement in a magistrate’s court.
Justice Lodh mentioned that there was no ‘Cheap apprehension’ that the petitioner can be arrested and ordered the TI Parade. “According to me, such act and commission are not only detrimental to the sentiment, safety and security of the doctors and her staff, the frontline warriors of the nation but also detrimental to the interest of the entire society,” said the Judge. He also added that the petition would be taken up again on August 5.
Reportedly, on 25 July a group of five post-Cesarean Covid positive mothers with their newborns were taken to Bhagat Singh Covid Care Centre for treatment when the already existing patients stopped them saying, “No more Covid patients will be allowed here, there’s no enough space left“. When the medical team went there to talk with the angry patients, they started using extremely ‘rude’, ‘slang’ words, said Dr. Sangeeta Chakraborty. And after a long argument when Dr. Chakraborty was making a call to the higher authorities for a solution, a yellow-shirted person spat on her from the upper floor.
An FIR has been lodged against the incident by Dibyendu Bikash, on behalf of the department of health services.
All Tripura Government Doctors Association strongly condemned the uncivilized attack on Dr. Sangeeta Chakraborty, who is the District Health Officer of West District. The whole state is now waiting to see what action will be taken against the people who performed this uncultured act against the Doctor.
