West Bengal Congress Chief Somen Mitra passes away at 78

Kolkata:- One of the renewed Congress leaders of West Bengal Somen Mitra passes Away at 78. As per the hospital authority, Somen Mitra was suffering from various age-related ailments and underwent dialysis a few days back. Subsequently, he also suffered a cardiac arrest at 1.30 am on Wednesday. However, he had tested negative for COVID-19.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed condolences on the death of Mitra. “Congress leaders Somen Mitra an experienced politician and he was former Trinamool Congress MP from Diamond Harbour. I express my deep condolences for my family members and followers of the Mitra,” said West Bengal Chief Minister.

Somen Mitra was the face of Congress-CPI-M alliance ahead of the 2016 polls and again maintained the alliance to date. Mitra was a seven-time MLA from Sealdah Constituency and a three-time Congress President. He started his political career as a student leader in the early 1960’s.
